Digital Magazines

So, I subscribed to a free three issue trial of Nylon magazine. Once my trial was up, I had the opportunity to subscribe to a year of digital Nylon for one year for only $1.99 US. I thought this was super cool, as I love the magazine and am all about saving trees and energy and money. Also, I live on the computer and haven't actually picked up a real paper magazine for eons.

This whole experience with the digital edition of Nylon kinda got me interested in seeing which other magazines are available in digital format. I also thought that digital editions must be substantially cheaper because the publisher does not have to pay for printing and shipping.

Make magazine is available in digital format. However, you only get a paltry $8 off by subscribing to digital only. Kinda lame and not much incentive to subscribe to the digital edition considering you get the digital edition free if you subscribe to the print format of Make.

has a number of magazines available electronically, including Penthouse and Playboy. (Digital subscriptions to these mags might be cool for the guy whose wife/girlfriend might not be so happy with him receiving print versions in the mail.)

One Semester Down. One to Go.

I've finished the second to last semester of my program. And I did pretty well grade wise, considering everything. (i.e. the fact that my semester consisted of 6 classes and that I was also working 16-20 hrs a week at the Giant Electronic Retailer.

The weather has been kinda crazy here on the Island. There have been high winds blowing over trees and taking down power lines. A transformer exploded a few days ago mere blocks from our apartment, which was kinda interesting. Apparently some people won't get power restored until the new year, which I assume will kinda put a damper on their Christmas celebrations.

I went skiing up at Mt. Washington a couple weeks ago with my friend Van. I had a great time except for the fact that when we got there it was raining. And foggy. We both got pretty damp. To stave of the cold we did do a couple of shots of fireball, and that seemed to help. We finally left, however, when the rain started to freeze into little ice pellets. (That didn't feel so good on the face coming down the hill at several km an hour.)

Personal DNA This is a particularly good time waster. There are 11 pages of questions. (Here's mine: Alice's Personal DNA. I answered all 11 pages of questions to find out I am a "Considerate Experiencer." Hmmm. I hope your profile is better than mine.

Finetune This site is equally as good. Create a profile and create a playlist. If you get tired of making the playlist halfway through, you MUST finish it. It has to consist of 45 songs. I tried to stop. But I JUST HAD TO finish my playlist. (Just need 6 more songs. Now 5. Five dammit. Must finish...)

I am terribly sorry about the lack of updates. You see, I've just come off a long drunken bender... No, not really. I've just been procrastinating. And procrastination is something I am VERY good at. (For some reason...)

So here's whats new:

* I have moved. To the Island. To wait for the BIG ONE.

* I start school in September at the university here. I am finishing the last year of the Graphic Design Program I started. Then I get to find a real job. Yay.

* I have a new apartment. Daver and I found a place downtown with a wonderful view of the harbour. Oh, and right across from a nightclub. That has live bands. EVERY NIGHT. It's super awesome. I finally got used to the noise. It is preety awesome though, a couple of weeks ago we checked out Kyprios of Sweat Shop Union and tonight DOA is playing.

Here's whats not new:

* I still work at Giant Electronics Retailer. I would have found a new job, but I like the abuse heaped upon me by customers. Oh, and the giant discount I get on electronic products and accessories. (Yup. I'm a geek.)

Well, I have nothing exciting to write about. Which is fine, I suppose. Generally if something exciting happens to me, it's bad. I can't say I've had a lot of good exciting things happen. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I rarely get excited about anything as I tend to be very pessimistic. Or perhaps I am getting exciting and distressing mixed up? Anyways, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, that I have nothing exciting to write about. See, I told you. NOTHING EXCITING. Confusing perhaps, but not exciting. Wow. I need to go to bed. Oh, and I also need to stop drinking.

Gallery Show (w/Curry Balls)

Well, I am pretty pleased with myself. I currently have a piece of work in the Kamloops Art Gallery (not THE MAIN Gallery, of course. But rather, a small space next to the gift shop. But still...) Who knew? On Saturday my mom and I went to the show's opening. They served wine, beer, cheese, fruit and these incredibly stinky curry balls which left the both of us with some rather unpleasant intestinal distress. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable evening, being a chance for me to exchange my usual slovenly attire for something more presentable.
